This large oval of White Buffalo Turquoise is set in the middle of a sand casted square with decorative textures. The black and white of the stone move together like clouds between mountains making a beautiful statement piece.
White Buffalo Turquoise was first discovered in Nevada in 1993 by the Otteson family. It was found amongst veins of turquoise, and thus was assumed to be turquoise when the chemical composition is actually magnesite and alumite, instead of copper aluminum phosphate (which is true Turquoise). White Buffalo Turquoise is highly valued amongst jewellers for its unique marbling and rare occurrence.
Sand casting is a very old method of casting using special sand, and a shaped object to make jewelry. The artist creates a carved form to create an impression in the sand, the form is then removed to create a hollow and metal is then poured in, creating a one of a kind piece of jewellery with unique textures.
