Sleeping Beauty Turquoise

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise comes from the Sleeping Beauty Mine near Globe, Arizona. The mine was named after the surrounding mountain range, which, when viewed from a distance, is said to resemble a sleeping woman with her arms crossed.

Renowned for its pure, robin's egg blue color and the near absence of matrix, Sleeping Beauty has long been regarded as one of the world's most iconic turquoise varieties.

In 2012, the mine ceased the commercial recovery of turquoise as the operators chose to focus on their primary business of copper production. The decision was not because the turquoise had been exhausted, but rather the result of broader business considerations, including the economics of mining and production.

Since then, virtually no new material has entered the market. Most Sleeping Beauty turquoise available today comes from stock mined before production ended, making it increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors, lapidaries, and jewelry makers around the world.

スリーピングビューティー・ターコイズは、アリゾナ州グローブ近郊に位置するスリーピングビューティー鉱山で産出されます。その名は、遠くから眺めた山並みが、胸の前で腕を組んで眠る女性の姿に見えることに由来しています。

均一で澄んだスカイブルーの色合いと、マトリックス（母岩模様）がほとんど見られない美しさから、世界で最も象徴的なターコイズの一つとして知られています。

2012年、鉱山側は主要事業である銅の生産に経営資源を集中する方針を決定し、ターコイズの商業的な採掘・回収を終了しました。ターコイズが採り尽くされたわけではなく、採掘コストや採算性など複数の要因を踏まえた経営判断だったとされています。

それ以来、新たな供給はほとんどなく、市場に流通しているスリーピングビューティー・ターコイズの多くは、閉山以前に採掘・保管されていたストックです。その希少性から、現在も世界中のコレクターやジュエリー作家に高く評価され続けています。
