Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Pendant
A square, sterling silver pendant holding a Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. Sand casted and decorated with lines coming out from the centre as well as a pattern like twisted wire around the edges.
The Sleeping Beauty turquoise mine was named after the Arizona mountain range where it is located, which from a distance is said to resemble a sleeping woman with her arms crossed. Increased government regulations and mining costs led to the mine's closure in 2012. Since then, Sleeping Beauty turquoise has become more valuable.
Wanderground was able to acquire this deadstock turquoise through a special connection.
Sand casting is a very old method of casting using special sand, and a shaped object to make jewelry. The artist creates a carved form to create an impression in the sand, the form is then removed to create a hollow and metal is then poured in, creating a one of a kind piece of jewellery with unique textures.
