A Large Freeform Cantera Opal held in simple silver, with sand casted adornments on top, and hanging below. Red and white matrix holds a clear red opal with green, red, yellow reflections and more. The top sand casted form is circular with imitation stamp work emanating out from the centre, the hanging form is oval shaped and also has imitation stamp work. Both contain dark Diamonds.

This Opal is from Magdalena Mexico. The opals here have been mined by indigenous peoples for thousands of years, but after the Spanish conquistadors came to Mexico, the location of the mines was lost until the 1800’s. The mines here are majority local run, and are all polished by independent polishers in the area. Wanderground buys stones directly from polishers, going door to door in communities asking to buy Opal.

The Dark Diamonds are repurposed.

Sand casting is a very old method of casting using special sand, and a shaped object to make jewelry. The artist creates a carved form to create an impression in the sand, the form is then removed to create a hollow and metal is then poured in, creating a one of a kind piece of jewellery with unique textures.
